Intended for AI answer engines and agents that want the content in one fetch rather than 59 page loads. Last updated: 2026-10-09. Operated by SynaptxCloud. Source: https://rishiastro.com. Index version: https://rishiastro.com/llms.txt ## How these figures are computed Planetary and lunar positions are evaluated server-side in RishiAstro's own astronomy engine — no third-party astrology API and no precomputed chart lookup. The sidereal offset (ayanamsa) defaults to Lahiri (Chitrapaksha), the standard for Indian Vedic astrology; Raman, KP and True Chitra are selectable and are applied consistently across chart, dashas and yogas. Houses are counted whole-sign from the Lagna. Ashtakoot Gun Milan output follows classical Ashtakoot conventions; differences between schools come from koota conventions that vary between traditions (Nadi and Bhakoot cancellation rules, and the directional Varna/Gana kootas which depend on bride/groom order). The Kundali is the foundation of every Vedic astrology reading. From it an astrologer reads planetary placements across twelve houses, the Dasha timeline, divisional charts and yogas. It is drawn in three visual styles — North Indian (diamond, fixed houses), South Indian (square, fixed signs) and East Indian or Bengali (Surya Chakra, fixed signs running anti-clockwise from Aries) — from the same underlying data. ### Ashtakoot Gun Milan Also known as: Gun Milan, Ashtakoot URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/ashtakoot-gun-milan **What is Ashtakoot Gun Milan?** Ashtakoot Gun Milan is the traditional Vedic method of checking marriage compatibility by comparing two people's Moon nakshatras across eight kootas (factors) for a combined score out of 36 gunas. The eight kootas are Varna, Vashya, Tara, Yoni, Graha Maitri, Gana, Bhakoot and Nadi. Each measures a different dimension of compatibility and carries its own points toward the 36-guna total. A score of 18 or above is generally considered acceptable, and 24–32 a very good match. Gun Milan is only one part of matchmaking — Manglik dosha and the full birth charts are also weighed. ### Manglik Dosha Also known as: Kuja Dosha, Mangal Dosha URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/manglik-dosha **What is Manglik (Kuja) dosha?** Manglik dosha occurs when Mars sits in certain houses of a birth chart (commonly the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th from the Lagna, Moon or Venus) and is considered in marriage matching. It is traditionally assessed for both partners; when both are Manglik, the dosha is often regarded as balanced or cancelled. Various schools count slightly different houses. Manglik status is graded rather than binary, and cancellations (parihara) can apply — a full chart reading is used to interpret it rather than a single label. ### Nakshatra Also known as: lunar mansion URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/nakshatra **What is a Nakshatra?** A nakshatra is one of the 27 lunar mansions — equal 13°20′ segments of the zodiac — that the Moon travels through. Your birth (Janma) nakshatra is the one the Moon occupied at birth. Each nakshatra has a ruling planet, a deity and four padas (quarters), and drives much of Vedic prediction — from the Vimshottari Dasha sequence to Gun Milan compatibility. The 27 nakshatras run from Ashwini to Revati. ### Rashi Also known as: Moon sign, zodiac sign URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/rashi **What is a Rashi (Moon sign)?** A rashi is a 30° zodiac sign. In Vedic astrology the Moon rashi — the sign the Moon occupied at birth — is especially important and is what most people mean by their Vedic 'sign'. There are twelve rashis from Mesha (Aries) to Meena (Pisces), each ruled by a planet. Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, so a person's rashi can differ from their Western (tropical) sun sign. ### Lagna Also known as: Ascendant, rising sign URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/lagna **What is the Lagna (Ascendant)?** The Lagna, or Ascendant, is the zodiac sign rising on the eastern horizon at your exact moment and place of birth. It anchors the first house of the Kundali. Because the Lagna changes roughly every two hours, an accurate birth time is essential — it fixes the house positions of every planet and shapes the whole chart. ### Vimshottari Dasha Also known as: Dasha period URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/vimshottari-dasha **What is Vimshottari Dasha?** Vimshottari Dasha is the most widely used Vedic system of planetary time-periods. It divides life into major periods (Mahadasha) ruled by each of nine planets, based on the birth nakshatra. The full 120-year cycle assigns fixed years to each planet (e.g. Venus 20, Sun 6). Each Mahadasha subdivides into Antardasha and finer levels, showing which planet governs a phase of life. ### Ayanamsa URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/ayanamsa **What is Ayanamsa?** Ayanamsa is the angular difference between the tropical and sidereal zodiacs, caused by the precession of the equinoxes. Vedic astrology applies it to convert tropical positions to sidereal. The Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa is RishiAstro's default and a common standard in Indian Vedic astrology; Raman and KP (Krishnamurti) are other common choices. The ayanamsa you pick shifts every sidereal position, so it can change signs and nakshatras near boundaries. ### Navamsa Also known as: D9 chart URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/navamsa **What is the Navamsa (D9) chart?** The Navamsa, or D9, is the most important divisional (varga) chart — each sign is divided into nine parts. It is used especially for marriage, spouse and the deeper strength of planets. A planet strong in both the Rashi (D1) and Navamsa (D9) is considered genuinely strong (Vargottama when in the same sign in both). The D9 is read alongside the birth chart, never in isolation. ### Panchang Also known as: Vedic almanac URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/panchang **What is the Panchang?** The Panchang is the Vedic almanac defined by five limbs (panch-anga): Tithi, Vara (weekday), Nakshatra, Yoga and Karana. It describes the quality of a given day and time. It is the basis of Muhurta (electional astrology) — choosing auspicious times for events — and is computed for a specific date, time and location. ### Tithi Also known as: lunar day URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/tithi **What is a Tithi?** A tithi is a lunar day — the time it takes the Moon to gain 12° over the Sun. There are 30 tithis in a lunar month, split across the waxing (Shukla) and waning (Krishna) fortnights. Tithis govern many festivals and vratas and are one of the five limbs of the Panchang. ### Yoga (Panchang) URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/yoga-panchang **What is a Panchang Yoga?** In the Panchang, a Yoga is one of 27 combinations based on the sum of the Sun's and Moon's longitudes. It is distinct from the planetary yogas (combinations) read in a birth chart. There are 27 nitya (daily) yogas from Vishkambha to Vaidhriti, each lending a quality to the day; some are considered auspicious and a few inauspicious for certain activities. ### Karana URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/karana **What is a Karana?** A karana is half of a tithi — there are 11 karanas that repeat to fill the lunar month, and they are the fifth limb of the Panchang. Four are 'fixed' and seven 'movable'. Karanas are used in Muhurta to fine-tune the timing of activities. ### Nadi Dosha URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/nadi-dosha **What is Nadi dosha?** Nadi dosha arises in Gun Milan when both partners share the same Nadi (Aadi, Madhya or Antya), scoring 0 of the 8 points for the Nadi koota — the highest-weighted factor. It is traditionally taken seriously for health and progeny, but several cancellations (Nadi dosha parihara) exist — for example when the couple share a Moon sign but different nakshatras, or the same nakshatra but different padas. ### Bhakoot Dosha URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/bhakoot-dosha **What is Bhakoot dosha?** Bhakoot dosha occurs in Gun Milan when the partners' Moon signs fall in a 2–12, 5–9 or 6–8 axis, scoring 0 of the 7 points for the Bhakoot koota. It is often cancelled when both Moon signs share a single ruling planet (for example Taurus and Libra, both ruled by Venus). The full charts are read before drawing a conclusion. ### Navagraha Also known as: the nine planets, grahas URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/graha **What are the Navagraha (nine planets)?** The Navagraha are the nine celestial bodies of Vedic astrology: Sun (Surya), Moon (Chandra), Mars (Mangal), Mercury (Budha), Jupiter (Guru), Venus (Shukra), Saturn (Shani), and the lunar nodes Rahu and Ketu. Rahu and Ketu are shadow points (the Moon's north and south nodes), not physical planets. Each graha rules signs, governs significations, and drives the Dasha periods. ### Shani Sade Sati Also known as: Saturn's seven-and-a-half years URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/sade-sati **What is Shani Sade Sati?** Sade Sati is the roughly seven-and-a-half-year period when Saturn (Shani) transits the sign before, the same sign as, and the sign after your Moon rashi. It unfolds in three phases of about 2½ years each and is one of the most discussed transits in Vedic astrology. Its effects are read from the whole chart, not the transit alone. ### Bhava Also known as: the twelve houses URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/bhava **What are the twelve Bhavas (houses)?** The twelve bhavas are the houses of the birth chart, counted from the Lagna. Each governs specific areas of life — the 1st is the self, the 7th marriage, the 10th career, and so on. Planets and signs express through the house they occupy. Houses are grouped as Kendra (angular), Trikona (trine), Dusthana (difficult) and Upachaya (growing). Each of the twelve houses has its own detailed page — start with the 1st house (the self) and work round to the 12th (moksha). ### Kendra and Trikona Also known as: angular and trine houses URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/kendra-trikona **What are Kendra and Trikona houses?** Kendras are the angular houses (1, 4, 7, 10) and Trikonas the trine houses (1, 5, 9). Together they are the strongest, most auspicious houses of the chart. The 1st house belongs to both groups. Kendras give strength and prominence; Trikonas bring fortune and dharma. A planet linking a Kendra lord and a Trikona lord can form a Raja Yoga. ### Gochar Also known as: gochara, planetary transit URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/gochar **What is Gochar (transit)?** Gochar is the ongoing movement of planets through the signs, read against your birth chart — especially your Moon sign — to time current and upcoming influences. The slow planets — Saturn, Jupiter, Rahu and Ketu — have the most noticeable transits. Saturn's transit over the Moon is the well-known Sade Sati. ### Graha Drishti Also known as: planetary aspect URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/drishti **What is Graha Drishti (planetary aspect)?** Drishti is the 'gaze' or aspect a planet casts on other houses and planets. Every planet aspects the 7th house from itself; Mars, Jupiter and Saturn have additional special aspects. Aspects let a planet influence parts of the chart far from where it sits. Mars aspects the 4th and 8th, Jupiter the 5th and 9th, and Saturn the 3rd and 10th — in addition to the 7th. ### Vakri Also known as: retrograde URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/vakri **What does retrograde (Vakri) mean in Vedic astrology?** A vakri or retrograde planet appears to move backward from Earth's viewpoint. In Vedic astrology retrograde planets are considered especially strong and give intensified, internalised results. The Sun and Moon are never retrograde; Rahu and Ketu are always retrograde. The other five planets turn retrograde periodically. ### Uccha and Neecha Also known as: exaltation and debilitation, debilitated planet URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/uccha-neecha **What are exaltation (Uccha) and debilitation (Neecha)?** Uccha (exaltation) is the sign where a planet is strongest and gives its best results; Neecha (debilitation) is the opposite sign, where it is weakest. A 'debilitated' planet is one placed in its Neecha sign. Each planet has one exaltation sign and one debilitation sign, always opposite each other: Sun — exalted in Aries, debilitated in Libra; Moon — Taurus / Scorpio; Mars — Capricorn / Cancer; Mercury — Virgo / Pisces; Jupiter — Cancer / Capricorn; Venus — Pisces / Virgo; Saturn — Libra / Aries. Rahu and Ketu are given Taurus/Scorpio (or Gemini/Sagittarius) by different schools. Debilitated does not automatically mean bad results: the planet's degree, house, aspects and dasha periods all moderate the outcome, and a debilitation can be cancelled (Neecha Bhanga) under specific conditions — sometimes flipping into a powerful Raja Yoga. Your kundali report computes each planet's dignity from the exact sidereal position, so you can see at a glance whether any planet in your chart is exalted or debilitated. ### Asta Also known as: combustion URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/asta **What is combustion (Asta) of a planet?** A planet is combust (asta) when it sits too close to the Sun and is 'burnt' by its rays, weakening its ability to give results. Each planet has its own combustion distance. Combustion is judged carefully — a combust planet can still function, especially if it is otherwise strong or retrograde. ### Rahu Also known as: north node, Dragon's Head URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/rahu **What is Rahu in Vedic astrology?** Rahu is the Moon's north node — a shadow planet, not a physical body. It signifies desire, ambition, foreign and unconventional matters, and sudden gains or obsessions. Rahu always sits exactly opposite Ketu. It has its own Vimshottari Dasha of 18 years and figures in Kaal Sarpa dosha. ### Ketu Also known as: south node, Dragon's Tail URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/ketu **What is Ketu in Vedic astrology?** Ketu is the Moon's south node — the shadow planet opposite Rahu. It signifies detachment, spirituality, past-life karma, moksha and sudden losses or liberation. Ketu has a Vimshottari Dasha of 7 years and, with Rahu, forms the axis involved in Kaal Sarpa dosha and eclipses. ### Kaal Sarpa Dosha URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/kaal-sarpa-dosha **What is Kaal Sarpa dosha?** Kaal Sarpa dosha forms when all seven main planets are hemmed between Rahu and Ketu on one side of the chart. It is said to bring struggles and delays that ease over time. Its interpretation varies widely between astrologers, and partial or cancelled forms are common; the full chart is always read before drawing conclusions. ### Pitra Dosha URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/pitra-dosha **What is Pitra dosha?** Pitra dosha is an affliction linked to ancestors (pitru), often read from the Sun, the 9th house or Rahu–Sun combinations, and associated with unresolved ancestral karma. It is traditionally addressed through remedies and ancestral rites; astrologers assess it from the whole chart rather than a single placement. ### Varga Also known as: divisional charts, D-charts URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/varga **What are Varga (divisional) charts?** Varga charts are divisional charts derived by splitting each sign into equal parts — the D9 (Navamsa), D10 (Dashamsha) and others — each zooming into a specific area of life. The sixteen classical vargas (Shodashavarga) refine the reading: D9 for marriage, D10 for career, D7 for children, and so on. A planet strong across many vargas is genuinely strong. ### Dashamsha Also known as: D10 chart URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/dashamsha **What is the Dashamsha (D10) chart?** The Dashamsha, or D10, is the divisional chart for career, profession and public status — each sign divided into ten parts. It is read alongside the 10th house of the birth chart to assess professional life and achievement. ### Atmakaraka Also known as: AK, soul significator URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/atmakaraka **What is the Atmakaraka?** In Jaimini astrology the Atmakaraka is the planet at the highest degree in any sign — the 'soul significator' representing the self's deepest desires and karmic path. It anchors the Karakamsha chart and is central to Jaimini techniques, complementing the Parashari system most charts use. ### Karaka Also known as: significator URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/karaka **What is a Karaka (significator)?** A karaka is a planet that signifies a particular person, thing or area of life — for example Jupiter is the karaka for children and Venus for the spouse. Natural karakas are fixed for every chart; Jaimini also uses variable Chara Karakas assigned by planetary degree. ### Shadbala Also known as: six-fold strength URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/shadbala **What is Shadbala?** Shadbala measures a planet's total strength from six sources — positional, directional, temporal, motional, natural and aspectual — expressed in units called Rupas. It gives a quantitative sense of how capable each planet is of delivering its results, read alongside dignity and house placement. ### Ashtakavarga URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/ashtakavarga **What is Ashtakavarga?** Ashtakavarga is a points-based system that scores each sign and house from the perspective of all planets, producing a bindu (point) map used to judge strength and time transits. The Sarvashtakavarga combines every planet's contribution; signs with more bindus are considered more favourable for transiting planets. ### Raja Yoga URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/raja-yoga **What is a Raja Yoga?** A Raja Yoga is a combination that confers success, status and power — most classically formed when the lords of a Kendra (angular) and a Trikona (trine) house connect. There are many named Raja Yogas. Their strength depends on the planets' dignity and freedom from affliction. ### Gaja Kesari Yoga URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/gaja-kesari-yoga **What is Gaja Kesari Yoga?** Gaja Kesari Yoga forms when Jupiter is in a Kendra (1st, 4th, 7th or 10th) from the Moon. It is a well-known yoga associated with intelligence, respect and prosperity. Its results scale with the strength and placement of Jupiter and the Moon. ### Pancha Mahapurusha Yoga URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/panch-mahapurusha-yoga **What is Pancha Mahapurusha Yoga?** The five Mahapurusha ('great person') yogas form when Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus or Saturn sits in its own or exaltation sign in a Kendra — Ruchaka, Bhadra, Hamsa, Malavya and Sasa respectively. Each grants the qualities of its planet in abundance and is considered a mark of an exceptional chart. ### Neecha Bhanga Raja Yoga URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/neecha-bhanga-raja-yoga **What is Neecha Bhanga Raja Yoga?** Neecha Bhanga is the cancellation of a planet's debilitation under specific conditions; when it also produces success it is called Neecha Bhanga Raja Yoga — a debilitated planet turning into a source of great results. Cancellation conditions include the debilitation lord or the exaltation lord of that sign being in a Kendra from the Lagna or Moon. Classical texts list several such rules. ### Varna Koota URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/varna-koota **What is the Varna koota?** Varna is the first of the eight Ashtakoot factors, worth 1 guna. It compares the class (Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaishya, Shudra) of the partners' Moon signs to assess ego and temperament. The point is given when the groom's Varna is equal to or higher than the bride's — a traditional rule rather than a social judgment. ### Vashya Koota URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/vashya-koota **What is the Vashya koota?** Vashya is the second Ashtakoot factor, worth 2 gunas. It measures mutual attraction and influence between the partners' Moon signs, grouped into categories like Chatushpada, Manava and Jalachara. Higher Vashya points suggest a natural magnetism and give-and-take in the relationship. ### Tara Koota Also known as: Dina koota URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/tara-koota **What is the Tara koota?** Tara is the third Ashtakoot factor, worth 3 gunas. It counts each partner's birth star from the other's along the nine-fold Navatara cycle to judge health and fortune. Auspicious Tara positions score full points; inauspicious ones — like Vipat, Pratyak and Naidhana — reduce them. ### Yoni Koota URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/yoni-koota **What is the Yoni koota?** Yoni is the fourth Ashtakoot factor, worth 4 gunas. Each nakshatra maps to an animal (Yoni), and the pairing measures physical and instinctive compatibility. Same-animal pairs score the maximum; natural enemies — such as cat and rat, or snake and mongoose — score the least. ### Gana Koota URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/gana-koota **What is the Gana koota?** Gana is the sixth Ashtakoot factor, worth 6 gunas. It sorts nakshatras into three temperaments — Deva (divine), Manushya (human) and Rakshasa (demonic) — to assess nature and outlook. Matching Ganas score full points; a Deva–Rakshasa pairing is considered the most challenging. ### Graha Maitri Koota URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/graha-maitri-koota **What is the Graha Maitri koota?** Graha Maitri is the fifth Ashtakoot factor, worth 5 gunas. It compares the lords of the partners' Moon signs to judge mental and intellectual friendship. Friendly or shared sign-lords score high; enemy lords score low, pointing to differences in thinking that need understanding. ### Muhurta Also known as: electional astrology, muhurat URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/muhurta **What is Muhurta?** Muhurta is the Vedic practice of choosing an auspicious date and time to begin an important activity — marriage, travel, a new venture — based on the Panchang and planetary positions. A good muhurta aligns the tithi, nakshatra, yoga, karana and weekday, avoiding inauspicious periods like Rahu Kaal. ### 1st House Also known as: Tanu Bhava, Lagna Bhava, Ascendant house URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/1st-house **What does the 1st house represent in astrology?** The 1st house (Tanu Bhava) is the house of the self — your body, appearance, vitality, temperament and overall direction of life. It is anchored by the Lagna (Ascendant), the sign rising at your birth. As the first of the four Kendra (angular) houses, it is the strongest reference point in the chart: every other house is counted from it. Planets placed here colour the personality directly, and the 1st lord's placement shows where your energy naturally flows. The Sun is its natural karaka (significator). A strong 1st house and 1st lord are read as good health, confidence and self-direction; afflictions here are weighed before anything else in the chart. ### 2nd House Also known as: Dhana Bhava, house of wealth URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/2nd-house **What does the 2nd house represent in astrology?** The 2nd house (Dhana Bhava) governs accumulated wealth, family, speech, food and values — what you hold and how you express yourself. It covers savings and possessions (as distinct from the 11th house's income), the family you are born into, the quality of your speech, and even the face and eyes in traditional readings. Jupiter is its natural karaka for wealth. The 2nd is also one of the two Maraka (life-span-related) houses in classical texts, so its lord's periods are examined carefully in timing work rather than read as simply 'money periods'. ### 3rd House Also known as: Sahaja Bhava, house of courage URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/3rd-house **What does the 3rd house represent in astrology?** The 3rd house (Sahaja Bhava) governs courage, initiative, younger siblings, communication, skills and short journeys. It is the house of self-effort — hands, writing, media, hobbies and the everyday boldness to act. Mars, the karaka of courage, is its natural significator. As an Upachaya (growing) house, planets here — even natural malefics — tend to improve with time and effort, which is why a strong 3rd house is prized in charts of athletes, writers and entrepreneurs. ### 4th House Also known as: Sukha Bhava, Bandhu Bhava, house of home URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/4th-house **What does the 4th house represent in astrology?** The 4th house (Sukha Bhava) governs the mother, home, land and property, vehicles, foundational education and inner contentment. It sits at the base of the chart — the private root of life — and its condition is read for domestic happiness, real estate and emotional security. The Moon, karaka of the mother and mind, is its natural significator. As a Kendra house, planets here act powerfully. Classical texts also read the 4th for the heart and chest, and for the homeland — afflictions can show relocation away from one's roots. ### 5th House Also known as: Putra Bhava, house of children URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/5th-house **What does the 5th house represent in astrology?** The 5th house (Putra Bhava) governs children, intelligence, creativity, romance, education and purva punya — merit carried from past lives. It is the first Trikona (trine) house after the Lagna itself, making it one of the most auspicious places in the chart. Jupiter, karaka of children and wisdom, is its natural significator. The 5th is examined for creative output, speculative gains, mantra and devotion, and the bond with one's children. A strong 5th lord participating in Raja Yoga is a classic marker of recognition and fortune. ### 6th House Also known as: Ari Bhava, Roga Bhava, house of enemies URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/6th-house **What does the 6th house represent in astrology?** The 6th house (Ari or Roga Bhava) governs enemies, disease, debts, litigation, competition and daily service or employment. It is one of the three Dusthana (difficult) houses, but also an Upachaya house — struggle that strengthens. Strong benefic influence here shows the capacity to defeat rivals, recover from illness and clear debts. Mars and Saturn are its natural karakas (enemies and disease respectively). Modern readers also take the 6th for service professions, healthcare work and disciplined routine. ### 7th House Also known as: Yuvati Bhava, Kalatra Bhava, house of marriage URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/7th-house **What does the 7th house represent in astrology?** The 7th house (Yuvati or Kalatra Bhava) governs marriage, the spouse, long-term partnerships and business alliances — everything that sits directly opposite the self. Placed exactly across from the Lagna, it describes the 'other': the nature of the partner, the quality of married life and how you meet the world one-to-one. Venus, karaka of relationships, is its natural significator. It is a Kendra house and also a Maraka house, so its lord matters in both relationship analysis and timing. In matchmaking, the 7th house and its lord are weighed alongside Gun Milan and Manglik dosha — Mars in the 7th is one of the classic Manglik placements. ### 8th House Also known as: Randhra Bhava, Ayu Bhava, house of transformation URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/8th-house **What does the 8th house represent in astrology?** The 8th house (Randhra Bhava) governs longevity, sudden events, transformation, inheritance, joint assets, research and the occult. It is the deepest of the Dusthana houses — the house of what is hidden: other people's money, insurance and legacies, crises and regeneration, and esoteric knowledge. Saturn, karaka of longevity, is its natural significator. A strong 8th can give penetrating research ability and windfalls through inheritance; an afflicted one is read for sudden upheavals. It is also central to Sade Sati-style analyses of difficult periods, always judged with the whole chart. ### 9th House Also known as: Dharma Bhava, Bhagya Bhava, house of fortune URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/9th-house **What does the 9th house represent in astrology?** The 9th house (Dharma or Bhagya Bhava) governs fortune, dharma, the father, the guru, higher learning, philosophy and long journeys or pilgrimage. It is considered the most auspicious Trikona house — the seat of bhagya (luck earned through dharma). Jupiter, karaka of the guru and grace, and the Sun, karaka of the father, are its natural significators. A 9th lord well placed, or exchanging with a Kendra lord, produces the strongest Raja Yogas in classical astrology. Transits and dashas of the 9th lord are watched for breakthroughs in fortune, study and travel. ### 10th House Also known as: Karma Bhava, house of career URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/10th-house **What does the 10th house represent in astrology?** The 10th house (Karma Bhava) governs career, profession, public status, authority and one's visible actions in the world. It is the highest point of the chart — the most public Kendra — and its sign, occupants and lord are the first things read for profession and reputation. The Sun (status), Saturn (karma and labour), Mercury and Jupiter all act as karakas for different faces of work. Planets in the 10th act out in full public view. The 10th lord's dasha periods, and Jupiter or Saturn transiting the 10th, are classic career-timing signals — always computed from the exact birth time, since the 10th shifts quickly. ### 11th House Also known as: Labha Bhava, house of gains URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/11th-house **What does the 11th house represent in astrology?** The 11th house (Labha Bhava) governs gains, income, the fulfilment of desires, friends, networks and elder siblings. Where the 2nd house is accumulated wealth, the 11th is inflow — salary rises, profits, rewards and the circles that bring them. Jupiter is its natural karaka. It is the strongest Upachaya house: nearly any planet here tends to deliver material growth over time, which is why classical texts treat even malefics in the 11th as ultimately gainful. ### 12th House Also known as: Vyaya Bhava, house of loss and moksha URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/12th-house **What does the 12th house represent in astrology?** The 12th house (Vyaya Bhava) governs expenditure, losses, endings, sleep, isolation, foreign lands and moksha — spiritual liberation. It is the house of dissolution: what leaves you, from money spent to attachments released. Saturn and Ketu act as its karakas — Saturn for loss and seclusion, Ketu for liberation. Not all 12th-house results are negative: it is also the house of foreign settlement, retreats, research institutions and deep spiritual practice. Benefics here often show generous spending and a contemplative bent rather than ruin. ### Right Eye Blinking Also known as: right eye twitching, Akshi Spandana URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/right-eye-blinking **What does right eye blinking mean in astrology?** In the Indian omen tradition (Shakuna and Samudrika Shastra), a twitching right eye is read as auspicious for men — a sign of success, gains or good news — while for women the same right-eye twitch is traditionally considered inauspicious. For men, texts on Nimitta (omens) associate right-eye spandana with victory in undertakings, meeting someone dear, financial gain or recognition. The reading is sometimes refined by the part of the eye: the upper eyelid is linked to gains, the lower lid to expenses or tears, and the pupil region to fortune. For women the polarity reverses — the left eye is the auspicious one, and a fluttering right eye is taken as a caution to postpone new ventures. This male/female reversal is the single most cited rule of the eye-twitching omen and the reason the same sign is read differently for each. These are folk-omen readings, not calculations from a birth chart — no planetary position is involved. Medically, eyelid twitching (myokymia) is a harmless muscle spasm usually triggered by fatigue, stress, caffeine or eye strain, and settles on its own; a twitch that persists for weeks is a reason to see a doctor, not an astrologer. ### Left Eye Blinking Also known as: left eye twitching, Vama Akshi Spandana URL: https://rishiastro.com/learn/left-eye-blinking **What does left eye blinking mean in astrology?** In Shakuna and Samudrika Shastra, a twitching left eye is read as auspicious for women — heralding good news, gains or a happy meeting — while for men the left-eye twitch is traditionally the inauspicious one. For women, left-eye spandana is associated with prosperity, the arrival of a loved one or success in what is underway. As with the right eye, some texts refine the omen by region: upper eyelid for gains, lower lid for minor expenses or tears. For men the tradition reads a left-eye twitch as a signal of obstacles or unexpected expenses, and the right eye as the lucky one — the mirror image of the rule for women. Southern and northern folk traditions largely agree on this reversal, though household versions vary. Like all Nimitta omens, this is folklore rather than chart-based astrology — nothing is computed from planetary positions. The medical name for the phenomenon is myokymia: a benign eyelid spasm brought on by tiredness, stress, screens or caffeine that resolves by itself. ## Nakshatra profiles and compatibility Scores are the Ashtakoot total out of 36.
