The 2nd house (Dhana Bhava) governs accumulated wealth, family, speech, food and values — what you hold and how you express yourself.
It covers savings and possessions (as distinct from the 11th house's income), the family you are born into, the quality of your speech, and even the face and eyes in traditional readings. Jupiter is its natural karaka for wealth.
The 2nd is also one of the two Maraka (life-span-related) houses in classical texts, so its lord's periods are examined carefully in timing work rather than read as simply 'money periods'.
