What does left eye blinking mean in astrology?

Also known as: left eye twitching, Vama Akshi Spandana

In Shakuna and Samudrika Shastra, a twitching left eye is read as auspicious for women — heralding good news, gains or a happy meeting — while for men the left-eye twitch is traditionally the inauspicious one.

For women, left-eye spandana is associated with prosperity, the arrival of a loved one or success in what is underway. As with the right eye, some texts refine the omen by region: upper eyelid for gains, lower lid for minor expenses or tears.

For men the tradition reads a left-eye twitch as a signal of obstacles or unexpected expenses, and the right eye as the lucky one — the mirror image of the rule for women. Southern and northern folk traditions largely agree on this reversal, though household versions vary.

Like all Nimitta omens, this is folklore rather than chart-based astrology — nothing is computed from planetary positions. The medical name for the phenomenon is myokymia: a benign eyelid spasm brought on by tiredness, stress, screens or caffeine that resolves by itself.
