Astrology by Date of Birth and Time
Your date, time and place of birth are all Vedic astrology needs: from them, RishiAstro's astronomy engine computes your complete birth chart — Lagna, Moon sign, nakshatra, planetary positions, dashas and doshas — free, in seconds.
What your date of birth reveals
The date alone pins the slow-moving picture: the signs occupied by Jupiter, Saturn and the outer nodes Rahu and Ketu, and — on most days — your Moon sign (rashi) and birth nakshatra, which together seed your entire Vimshottari dasha timeline. This is why traditional astrologers can say a surprising amount from just a birthday.
Why the time and place matter
The Lagna — the sign rising on the eastern horizon — changes roughly every two hours and anchors all twelve houses of the chart. Marriage, career and health readings hang off those houses, so the birth time turns a general reading into your chart. The place fixes the horizon itself, which is why the same moment gives different charts in Delhi and New York.

Frequently asked questions
Can astrology work with just my date of birth, without the time?
Partly. Your Moon sign, birth nakshatra and dasha sequence can usually be derived from the date alone, because the Moon spends about two and a quarter days in each sign. But the Lagna (Ascendant) changes roughly every two hours, and it fixes all twelve houses — so career, marriage and health readings need the birth time. If the Moon changed signs on your birth date, even the Moon sign needs the time to resolve.
Is the birth chart really free?
Yes — the complete report is free: charts, planetary positions, dashas, dosha analysis and panchang, plus a free PDF download.
How are the positions calculated?
Every position is computed server-side by RishiAstro's own astronomy engine using VSOP87/ELP planetary theories, with the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa by default — the Indian government standard. Raman and KP ayanamsas are also available.
Why is my Vedic sign different from my Western zodiac sign?
Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac, Vedic astrology the sidereal zodiac — currently offset by about 24 degrees (the ayanamsa). Roughly four out of five people move one sign back in the Vedic system, which is why your 'astrology by date of birth' result here can differ from a Western sun-sign column.
