What does the 9th house represent in astrology?
Also known as: Dharma Bhava, Bhagya Bhava, house of fortune
The 9th house (Dharma or Bhagya Bhava) governs fortune, dharma, the father, the guru, higher learning, philosophy and long journeys or pilgrimage.
It is considered the most auspicious Trikona house — the seat of bhagya (luck earned through dharma). Jupiter, karaka of the guru and grace, and the Sun, karaka of the father, are its natural significators.
A 9th lord well placed, or exchanging with a Kendra lord, produces the strongest Raja Yogas in classical astrology. Transits and dashas of the 9th lord are watched for breakthroughs in fortune, study and travel.
